An 11-month-old nicknamed “Baby Buns” is finally leaving the hospital just nine days before his first birthday.
Kaleb Graves was born 16 weeks early last October, but his story started weeks before that.
His parents, Dana Griffin-Graves and Arkell Graves, went viral when Arkell broke down upon finding out his wife was pregnant. After four miscarriages and a stillbirth during their 17 year marriage, the couple had given up on trying to have a child.
At age 41, Griffin-Graves found out she was 19 weeks pregnant and decided to surprise her husband by putting a bag of buns in the oven with the sonogram picture. Graves openly wept as his wife filmed the moment.
Since his birth, Kaleb has struggled with many medical issues, including undergoing a tracheotomy, and had to remain in the neonatal intensive care unit at a Virginia hospital.
The family posted on its Facebook page Tuesday that Kaleb and his family are finally going home.
Kaleb will still require medical care at home, but the Griffin-Graves said on Facebook they spent time preparing to care for him, taking 12 hours to do so.
The initial video of Arkell finding out about his wife's pregnancy has more than 10 million views.
In October 2015, Griffin-Graves' sister Melanie Griffin-Hamlin set up a GoFundMe page to help with Kaleb's medical costs. It has rasied ovr $9,000 toward its $20,000 goal.
