Dr. Hamilton recommends his technique for infants up to two or three months of age; the baby becomes too heavy after that to use his method.

In the video, the pediatrician demonstrates four steps:

1) Fold the baby's arms across her chest, one at a time.

2) Secure the baby's arms with your non-dominant hand after they are folded.

3) Gently grab the diaper area with the dominant hand.b

4) At 45 degree angle, gently rock the baby up and down; you can gently shake the baby's bottom, too.

If the baby does not quiet down, Dr. Hamilton asks two questions:

1) Is the child ill?

2) Is the child hungry?
