Researchers from several fields have created a Working Group to understand better "how genes affect weight, both at behavioral and biological levels," according to a news release.
The Working Group includes representatives from the National Cancer Institute, the National Health Lung and Blood Institute, the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases and the Office of Behavioral and Social Sciences Research.
The group’s goal is to come up with weight loss treatments tailored to a person’s genetic makeup.
“For clinicians, better understanding of the genetic underpinnings for individual patients could aid in the development of precision weight-loss treatments with dietary, physical activity and other methods customized to each individual,” the news release stated.
