Gwinnett Medical Center is  participating in an international study  that looks at using nutritional therapies to improve the  quality of care of  patients in the intensive care unit.

Researchers have long known that good nutrition improves the healing process and boosts the immune system.

Dieticians, neurosurgeons and trauma surgeons have started collecting data on the clinical condition, nutritional status, nutrition received and outcomes of 20 critically-ill patients.

Gwinnett Medical Center was among 149 hospitals selected to participate in the 2009 research phase.
