Regular Atlanta-area events have been at a standstill with COVID-19 restrictions, but some are staging a comeback. And there are always plenty of activities to enjoy without a special event going on.

The annual yard sale continues this year, where you can hope to get some good deals from sellers who have decluttered their homes during COVID-19 restrictions.

"Smokelore: A History of Barbecue." 3 p.m.-4 p.m., Sunday, June 7. Webinar hosted by the Smyrna Public Library. Free, with registration requested. smyrnaga.gov.

Author Jim Auchmutey shares information about the history of barbecue in America, which dates back to the earliest encounters between native populations and European explorers.

Watch "The Secret Life of Pets 2" with the family and pack your favorite movie snacks and non-alcoholic drinks, plus chairs or a blanket. Social distancing will be observed, and family art projects and a pre-movie trivia time are also included in the fun. One member of your family needs to register online and keep your receipt to allow for enough space between you and the next family.

Gather your friends to work together in an escape room, choosing a scenario like Prison Break or The Heist, in which you'll try to recover stolen artwork. Safety and sanitation policies have been put in place, including limiting your adventure to just your group, disinfecting between every game and adjusting the game to remove high-touch elements. If you'd prefer to play at home, you can book a remote adventure instead.

DeKalb

Go old-school and watch a movie at the Starlight, where you’ll find new social distancing measures in place. Cars must park at least 10 feet away from one another and the snack bar is closed, although you can bring your own food and non-alcoholic beverages. You’ll also need to watch the movie from within your vehicle.

Constitution Lake Park is home to a one-of-a-kind art display known as Doll’s Head Trail. Doll heads and other parts have been used to create uniquely collaborative art throughout the trail.

Fernbank Science Center is currently closed, but you can still enjoy a virtual planetarium show live from the Jim Cherry Memorial Planetarium. Visit the Center's Facebook page to view the current show this Friday and to see past shows.

While Stone Mountain’s attractions are closed, you can still enjoy the park’s natural areas. The golf club is still open, as well as the grist mill, covered bridge and various trails.

Walk along a short paved multi-use path and check out a 19th century gristmill that’s been preserved and see the Alcovy River, which used to power the mill.
