From smart homes to millennial pink walls, there are many things in today’s homes that were not in fashion in our grandparents’ day and age.
However, some of those familiar pieces are returning to the bedroom, according to Apartment Therapy.
“Think serveware from the ’50s and ’60s, ’70s-era linens and wall hangings, a mishmash of mahogany and walnut furniture, and an extremely well-loved peacock blue recliner. Let me not forget the tchotchkes either, primarily of the feline variety,” freelance writer Laura Lajiness wrote of her early design memories of her grandparents’ California bungalow.
Some items are making a comeback in vintage form while others are being reinterpreted. Below are a handful of pieces from a former era that are being placed in modern homes.
Round pintuck pillows
While these items may have typically been found on sofas years ago, they can be used as a throw pillow for the bed or a side chair, too. Target has many available in different colors and fabrics, including bright yellows, toned-down greys and velvet.
Quilts
Exchange your comforter for a quilt that could rival the one you slept on during visits with grandma. Today’s quilts offer a variety of prints and colors so you can decide on a throwback design or a contemporary look. Bed, Bath & Beyond has some options.
Retro alarm clocks
Most people simply use their phones or smartwatches to wake up nowadays, however, there’s nothing wrong with having a dedicated item to tell time and get you out of bed in the mornings. Wayfair has several options available ― including some on sale.
Shag rugs
These aren’t your grandparents’ shag rugs. Today’s designs feature modern patterns and faux fur textures, which can add some fun to a plain bedroom. Overstock.com has dozens on sale.
