Need a dose of mid-year cheer? The Center for Puppetry Arts has just the thing. Next week, the museum will hold a “Emmet Otter’s Jug-Band Christmas” event.

On July 24, the virtual event will take audiences inside what it was like to make the movie. Attendees are encouraged to watch the movie prior to the event, which will feature “a rare opportunity to see and hear from some of the designers who helped create the film and to see the actual puppets that were used in making the movie,” according to a post on the center’s website.

The panel will discuss the making of the 1977 Jim Henson classic flick. The event, which will be moderated by the Jim Henson Company Archives Director Karen Falk, the Q&A will include two designers from the film, Calista Hendrickson and Rollie Krewson.

Proceeds from the event, which is $10 to attend, will go to the center’s Jim Henson Collection, which has more than 500 puppets and props.

Throughout the the last several months, the Center for Puppetry Arts has been among the Atlanta arts institutions that have pivoted to digital programming, from livestreamed shows to behind-the-scenes tours.

In 2022, Georgia Power projected its winter peak electricity demand would grow by about 400 megawatts by 2031. Since then, Georgia has experienced a boom of data centers, which require a large load of electricty to run, and Georgia Power's recent forecast shows peak demand growing by 20 times the 400-megawatt estimate from just three years ago.
