The Braves placed utilityman Danny Santana on the disabled list Friday with a left quad strain, the team announced.

Santana was injured in Thursday’s game against the Rockies. Braves manager Brian Snitker doesn’t think it’s serious, but didn’t want to risk it nagging and cutting into Santana’s time the rest of the season.

“It’s probably not real bad,” Snitker said. “Bad enough that we can’t afford two or three days to go short (on active players). That’s one of those injuries where, if it goes, it’s one of those injuries that’ll take a long time to heal. That’s why we took him out.”

The Braves acquired Santana from Minnesota on May 8. The switch-hitter has played in 69 games for the Braves, and has appeared in each contest since Aug. 5.

Santana started every game in left field at Colorado. Braves manager Brian Snitker didn’t want Matt Adams navigating the Coors Field corner.

Santana has hit .203/.245/.357, but profiles as the Braves’ most versatile defender.

Santana’s played 38 games in the outfield, adding seven games at second base and four at third.

Utilityman Micah Johnson was recalled from Triple-A Gwinnett to fill Santana’s spot. Johnson has appeared in three games with the Braves in 2017.

The 26-year-old Johnson hit .321/.404/.257 in 90 plate appearances in Gwinnett.
