With the spirit of the Olympic Games in the air, the budding Olympians in your family have some competition to look forward to.

Next month, the largest youth triathlon in the country is returning to Alpharetta "to promote healthy living and fitness among America's youth," according to a news release.

The IronKids Alpharetta triathlon to be held at Wills Park in September offers young athletes ages 6-15 a chance at their own silver and gold.

Participants across the Southeast can compete in three different age categories: junior (ages 6-8), intermediate (ages 9-12) and senior (ages 12-15).

Those in the junior age group will swim 50 meters, ride their bicycles for two miles and run 500 yards.

The intermediate age group will swim 150 meters, bike four miles and run one mile.

The older group will swim 300 meters, ride their bicycles for eight miles and run two miles.

Race registration is $50 per participant and ends Saturday, Sept. 17.

The race itself will be held on Sunday, Sept. 18 at Wills Park (1815 Old Milton Parkway).

But even if the kids aren't participating, bring them along to cheer on the 1,300+ young athletes testing their strength.

You can find a course map, registration details, schedule, event FAQs and much more at ironkidsalpharetta.com.
