UPDATE:
The 2017 Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Champion of the World in the men’s division is Joey Chestnut, who downed 72 hot dogs and buns in 10 minutes.
The women’s champ is Miki Sudo, who consumed 41 hot dogs and buns in 10 minutes.
An annual tradition, Nathan’s Famous International Hot Dog Eating Contest takes place every Fourth of July on Coney Island.
The contest is one of the best-known competitive eating events in the world and draws elite participants.
Nine-time champion Joey "Jaws" Chestnut is defending his title Tuesday, The Associated Press reported. His main competition is Matt "The Megatoad" Stonie, who beat Chestnut in 2015. In last year's rematch, Chestnut regained his title by consuming 70 franks and buns in 10 minutes.
On the women's side of the competition, Miki Sudo is hoping for her fourth title in a row. She ate 38 and a half hot dogs and buns to take the title last year. Sonya "The Black Widow" Thomas holds the women's record at 45 franks.
