During a typical Comedy Central roast, the subject of said roast doesn't normally apologize at the end.
But Justin Bieber surprised us all Monday night by getting serious and taking the opportunity to express regret for the things he's done in the past. And no, we're not joking.
"I was thrown into this at 12 years old, and I didn't really know what I was getting myself into. There's been moments I'm really proud of, and a lot of moments I look back and I'm pretty disappointed in myself for. I'm a kindhearted person who loves people, and through it all I lost some of my best qualities. For that, I'm sorry," Bieber said on "The Roast of Justin Bieber."

Or that time he got arrested for driving under the influence and drag racing in Florida ...
Or that other time he caused $80,000 worth of damage to his neighbor's house with some good old fashioned egging. OK, you get the point.
But still, the apology got Bieber's roast trending on Twitter worldwide long after the show ended Monday night.
And so the question becomes: Was it sincere?
A lot of fans out there were quick to assume the opposite, with some even accusing the "Boyfriend" singer of saying "I'm sorry" to get himself back on the entertainment industry map. (Video via The Island Def Jam Music Group / Justin Bieber)
But, of course, this isn't the first time Justin has publicly apologized for his wrongdoings.
He begged his fans for forgiveness in a Facebook video after his apparent arrogant appearance on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" earlier this year. (Video via Warner Bros. / "Ellen")
"But I was really nervous. And I think I was nervous because I'm just, I was afraid of what people are thinking about me right now."
And, for what it's worth, Ne-Yo totally has the Bieb's back.
"I think it was very big of Justin to apologize, especially in that I feel like it was a sincere apology. I feel like he really knows that he made a lot of mistakes, and he was sincerely and genuinely sorry for it." (Video via MTV)
Well, looks like we'll have to wait and see if Bieber is really abandoning his bad boy ways and making a comeback. But if he is, this is definitely a good start.
