Wakka Wakka: Pac-Man turns 35

Pac-Man has been eating pellets for 35 years.

The video game celebrates its anniversary of its release in Japan on May 22, 1980.

Pac-Man is considered one of the most successful video games of all time, and is also the most recognizable video came characters according to the Guinness Book of World Records.

As it migrated from Tokyo to the United States, more than 100,000 arcade units were sold in the first year and arcade owners earned more than $1 billion in quarters. According to the video game record keepers at Twin Galaxies, Pac-Man arcade machines went on to generate more than $2.5 billion in sales since then.

In 2010, Google created a 'Play Pac-Man Doodle' to honor the video game's 30th anniversary.
