There are no retakes on live television, but one Los Angeles traffic reporter wishes she could take back the harsh words she said about a co-worker while her microphone was unknowingly still on.

Anchor Sam Rubin was joking with the rest of the KTLA morning show crew, saying that his wife asked him, “When did you become the fat guy on the show?”

That’s when traffic reporter Ginger Chan piped up and said that Rubin had always been [the fat guy on the show.] The anchors were shocked but laughed at Chan’s comment. Chan was mortified to realize her microphone was still on.

Naturally, the clip made its way to YouTube, where it quickly went viral.

Rubin wrote a thoughtful response to the incident that was posted on Medium. He says while he knows he needs to lose a few pounds, he's never considered himself morbidly obese. He says while his bosses have never complained about his weight, he knows it is something that his female counterparts have to deal with on a regular basis.

As for his coworker who called him fat? Rubin says they hugged it out.
