Shaw and her daughter, Elizabeth, had stopped at the show on their way back to Iowa from her chemotherapy treatment.

When Brooks started playing “The Dance,” Shaw asked an usher if she could move closer to hold up her sign, which read, “Chemo this morning, Garth tonight, enjoying the dance.”

As she held up her sign in front of the stage, Brooks sat down on the stage in front of her and stopped the song.

He then took the sign and gave a speech to the audience.

Brooks, whose mother and sister died from cancer, then gave Shaw his guitar.
