SATURDAY

Maxwell

Last summer, the suave neo-soul man canceled his tour because of vocal cord hemorrhaging. All indications are that he’s ready to croon again, even though he’s mostly remained out of the public eye. His last album, “BLACKsummers’night,” was released in 2009 and was expected to be the first in a trilogy. No word on when its follow-up, “blackSUMMERS’night,” (yes, look closely, there is a difference!) will arrive.

8 p.m. July 6. $50-$120. Chastain Park Amphitheatre, 4469 Stella Drive N.W., Atlanta. 1-800-745-3000.

SUNDAY

Harry Connick Jr.

Connick said in a recent interview that Chastain is one of his favorite venues to play. He’ll return to said venue with a handful of new songs from his impressive new album, “Every Man Should Know,” as well as plenty of favorites from his 25-year career. Between occasional acting gigs (most recently “Dolphin Tale” and a stint on “Law & Order: SVU”) and popping up to mentor on “American Idol,” Connick’s consummate musicianship and sharp wit remain undiminished.

8 p.m. July 7. $55-$85. Chastain Park Amphitheatre, 4469 Stella Drive N.W., Atlanta. 1-800-745-3000.

We the Kings

With Breathe Carolina, T Mills and the Ready Set. The Florida-based power-pop-rock quintet has been a familiar presence on the Vans Warped Tour over the years, and in January, they began recording their fourth album. They’ve already released a handful of new songs, including “Just Keep Breathing,” influenced by frontman Travis Clark’s experiences being bullied as a kid, and the latest single, “Any Other Way.” Expect to hear them sandwiched between Top 40 hits such as “Check Yes Juliet” and “We’ll Be a Dream.”

6:30 p.m. July 7. $19. Center Stage, 1374 W. Peachtree St., Atlanta. 1-800-745-3000.

WEDNESDAY

Summer Soul Jam

It’s a ’70s soul fan’s dream with a bill including the Stylistics, the Manhattans, Heatwave, Harold Melvin’s Blue Notes, Peaches & Herb, Main Ingredient featuring Cuba Gooding Sr. and host Jimmie “J.J.” Walker. Most of the acts contain at least a couple of original members. But once you’re immersed in a parade of hits including “You Make Me Feel Brand New,” “Reunited,” “Boogie Nights,” “Shining Star” and “If You Don’t Know Me By Now,” it might not matter too much.

7 p.m. July 10. $25-$60. Chastain Park Amphitheatre, 4469 Stella Drive N.W., Atlanta. 1-800-745-3000.

THURSDAY

Dale Watson

Even when he spent most of spring 2012 in town to participate in the John Mellencamp/Stephen King musical “Ghost Brothers of Darkland County” at the Alliance Theatre, Watson never abandoned his honky-tonk music and guitar playing. He and the rest of the cast performed regularly at Eddie’s Attic — at the time, he called the jam sessions a “musical vacation” — and on many a Monday night, he could be found taking over the room at Smith’s.

8 p.m. July 11. $20 (18 and older only). Smith’s Olde Bar, 1578 Piedmont Ave., Atlanta. 1-877-725-8849.

The Shadowboxers

With Sydney Rhame. Atlanta’s Shadowboxers returned home for a couple of nights last month for their now-usual gig backing the Indigo Girls. Their debut album, “Red Room,” is available via the usual online locations (Amazon, iTunes, www.theshadowboxers.com), so you can hear their soulful R&B-pop that has so impressed Emily Saliers and Amy Ray.

8 p.m. July 11. $12 (advance); $16 (at door); $60 (reserved table for four). Eddie’s Attic, 515-B N. McDonough St., Decatur. 1-877-725-8849.
