“Selma” dominated the nominations for the 46th NAACP Image Awards on Tuesday morning, earning eight nods in five categories: film; director for Ava DuVernay; actor for David Oyelowo; supporting actress for both Carmen Ejogo and Oprah Winfrey; and supporting actor for Andre Holland, Common and Wendell Pierce.
Vying for best film along with “Selma” are “Belle,” “Beyond the Lights,” “Dear White People” and “Get on Up.”
Nominated for outstanding actor in a motion picture alongside Oyelowo were Chadwick Boseman for “Get on Up,” Denzel Washington for “The Equalizer,” Idris Elba for “No Good Deed” and Nate Parker for “Beyond the Lights.”
Contending for outstanding actress in a motion picture are Gugu Mbatha-Raw for “Belle,” Quvenzhane Wallis for “Annie,” Taraji P. Henson for “No Good Deed,” Tessa Thompson for “Dear White People” and Viola Davis for “The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby.”
Davis also earned a supporting actress nomination for her work in “Get on Up,” as did her co-stars Jill Scott and Octavia Spencer.
Rounding out the supporting actor category were Cedric the Entertainer for “Top Five” and Danny Glover for “Beyond the Lights.”
The awards, which celebrate the accomplishments of people of color, also announced nominees in TV, music and literature categories.
On the television front, “black-ish” and “How to Get Away With Murder” each earned seven nominations, followed by “Orange Is the New Black,” “Scandal” and “The Trip to Bountiful” with six apiece.
The NAACP Image Awards are scheduled to air Feb. 6 on TV One.
