"Broken Promise"

It sounds like an old country song. But the country is Nazi-occupied Slovakia.

Teenaged Martin (Samuel Spisak) might already be a soccer star at school, but once the Reich comes goose-stepping into his homeland, his new star is yellow. And it’s on his lapel.

Martin is naive enough to believe a friend who encourages him to come to a work camp with the promise of playing lots of soccer; thus, his first step into the morass of the Final Solution.

His odyssey takes him from a tuberculosis sanitarium to a stint with Communist guerrilla fighters.
