Acclaimed television and film director Garry Marshall has died at 81, his publicist confirmed.
CBS News reported that Marshall's publicist confirmed the news, saying he died at a hospital in Burbank, California.

According to TMZ, Marshall died of complications from pneumonia and was recently hospitalized when he suffered a stroke.
The director most recently wrapped "Mother's Day," an all-star romantic comedy that starred Jennifer Aniston, Kate Hudson and Jason Sudeikis among others.
Marshall was best known for directing the television series "Happy Days" and romantic comedies "Pretty Woman," and "The Princess Diaries."
Actor Albert Brooks, who starred in Marshall's 1985 film "Lost In America," shared his thoughts Tuesday:

He is survived by his sister, actress and director Penny Marshall, wife, Barbara Marshall, three adult children and six grandchildren.
CBS News reported that Marshall's funeral will be private, but a public memorial is planned Novermber 13, which would have been his 82nd birthday.
