Kanye West talks possible 2020 presidential run: I want to 'make a difference'

“I don’t know what I’m fitting to lose after this," he said at the time. "It don’t matter though because it ain’t about me; it’s about new ideas bro, people with ideas, people who believe in truth. And yes, as you probably could’ve guessed by this moment, I have decided in 2020 to run for president.”

Almost a year later, the "Famous" rapper is still talking about a potential bid for the White House. In an interview with BBC Radio One's Annie Mac, West elaborated on his views and reasons for wanting to run for president. He told Mac that he isn't particularly political but that he does have a view on "humanity, on people, on the truth" and he wants to make a difference.

“If there is anything that I can do with my time and my day to somehow make a difference while I’m alive, I’m going to try to do it," he said.

He is also disturbed at the lack of action when it comes to the violence plaguing our nation, saying, “We are numb. We’re numb to 500 kids getting killed in Chicago a year. We’re numb to the fact that it was seven police shootings in the beginning of July.”

If he does decide to run for president, he has already received some advice from a very important person: President Barack Obama. After the rapper’s announcement, President Obama told him that he’ll have to deal with “strange characters” if he comes to Washington and that he’ll just have to “be cool with that.”
