The parking lot of Home Depot’s corporate headquarters will transform into a volunteer center on Veterans Day.

More than 250 Home Depot associates will work with Habitat for Humanity and 20 nonprofit organizations to begin building homes, assembling furniture and more for local veterans.

On Nov. 11, volunteers will frame walls for four homes that will go to veteran families, while others put together furniture for formerly homeless veterans.

Eight veteran families will also receive custom playhouses as a part of this initiative.

The volunteer project is a part of the company’s national 6th annual Celebration of Service Campaign, a program that encourages the company and its associates to give back to veterans between Sept. 1 and Veterans Day.

Shannon Gerber, Executive Director of The Home Depot Foundation, gave the following statement about the Celebration of Service Campaign via email:

“Two of The Home Depot’s core values are giving back and doing the right thing, and we believe serving those who have served our country is just that. With more than 39,000 veterans homeless on any given night, 9.4 million senior veterans and 3.8 million veterans with a service-connected disability, there is a lot of work to be done in this space and we are passionate about working with our nonprofit partners to make a difference. We also have 35,000 veteran and reservist associates so improving the homes and lives of veterans and their families is very near and dear to us. To show our commitment to the veteran community, we recently announced that we’ll be growing our investment in veteran-related causes to a quarter of a billion dollars by 2020.”

The Home Depot was co-founded by Bernie Marcus and Atlanta Falcons owner Arthur Blank in 1978. The headquarters of the Fortune 500 Company is in Cobb County.
