NORCROSS
A-town A-list at Thrasher Park
The Summer Concert Series in downtown Norcross rocks and rolls along with A-town A-list. This party band delves into an uber-wide range of hits from the past half-century. You may get a slice of Motown, a Harry Connick Jr. cocktail and a side of the Black Eyed Peas. The band’s trio of young frontmen, who come off as top-tier “American Idol” contestants, refresh the older tunes with a contemporary sheen and play the current pop stuff with recognizable zest. Guests can chill out in the park on blankets and in lawn chairs. Feel free to bring a cooler and picnic basket, just leave the glass at home. To-go meals can be had from many of the nearby downtown eateries.
7:30 p.m. Aug. 2. Free. Thrasher Park, 93 Park Drive, Norcross. 678-421-2000.
MARIETTA
“Jaws” at Earl Smith Strand Theatre
If you’ve already taken that summer trip to the beach, you might feel better revisiting Steven Spielberg’s environmental horror classic. Go back into the water with police chief Brody (Roy Scheider) as he tracks down a hungry great white shark that’s terrorizing the fictional beach town of Amity. Watch Scheider deliver the classic line, “You’re going to need a bigger boat,” on a bigger screen. Seeing it in this ornate, old-school movie palace makes it all the more special. Get there early at 7:30 p.m. for a sing-along as Larry Davis mans the Strand’s Mighty Allen Theatre Organ.
8 p.m. Aug. 3. $9; $8 for students and seniors. Earl Smith Strand Theatre, 117 N. Park Square, Marietta. 770-293-0080.
CHATTAHOOCHEE HILLS
“Hair” at Serenbe
What better place to catch this hippie-dippy rock musical than outdoors in a place called the Wild Flower Meadow? The peace and love unfolds onstage near Serenbe’s Blue Eyed Daisy Bakeshop. The folks at Serenbe Playhouse are going for a Woodstock aesthetic. Expect scaffolding and a colorfully painted school bus as a ticket office. Watch as a group of counterculture kids protest the Vietnam War. Brian Clowdus directs the show, Seth Davis oversees the music and Bubba Carr choreographs the moves. The show includes a bit of nudity and rough language, so those 18 and younger must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
8:30 p.m. Thursdays-Sundays through Aug. 18 (Show dates have been extended). $20-$25. Serenbe Playhouse, 9065 Selborne Lane, Chattahoochee Hills. 770-463-1110.
