Buzzfeed recently conducted a test of several cheeseburgers from popular fast-food restaurants. Each cheeseburger was placed in a glass jar for 30 days, then examined for decay.
The restaurants involved in the Buzzfeed test included McDonald's, Carl's Jr., Burger King, Wendy's, Umami Burger, In-n-Out and Jack in the Box.
The results were presented in a time-lapse video that is going viral.
This is not the first time a fast-food burger has been subjected to a decay test. McDonald's burgers in particular have been the subject of such experiments. However, as Serious Eats demonstrates, even a homemade burger will not decay rapidly if in a temperature-stable and moisture-controlled environment.
