Atlanta's street food scene has quickly evolved. While food truck fare was once narrowly defined by subpar festival food, it has escalated greatly in quality and taste. Some Atlanta food trucks are pushing street food to brick-and-mortar restaurant quality. Thankfully, vegetarian-friendly menus are growing as well.
Work up an appetite and track down these veggie-friendly food trucks for some tasty vegetarian cuisine on the go. While finding a kitchen on wheels might seem daunting, you'll find daily locations for most trucks on their website or social media.
You'll also have a chance to hit these food trucks all at once: they're booked for this year's Atlanta Street Food Festival. Visit the festival on July 11 to sample over 50 street food vendors in Piedmont Park, where these veggie-friendly food trucks will dish their culinary creations alongside live music and entertainment.
Yumbii
Eastern flavors fuse with south of the border at the Yumbii truck. You'll have several tasty vegetarian options at this creative Asian-Mexican fusion kitchen, including quesadillas, tacos and burritos stuffed with stir-fried tofu. Try a fan favorite, the tofu burrito, which wraps tofu, greens dressed with soy-sesame vinaigrette, shredded cheese and Asian barbecue sauce in a burrito shell served with side of chipotle-flavored sour cream. It's a fresh-tasting fusion of flavors.
Nectar
Nectar serves fresh-pressed juices, smoothies and panini sandwiches from its signature green truck, a common site on Saturday mornings at Piedmont Park's Green Market. While its chalkboard menu changes, the panini board often offers a variety of vegetarian-friendly options like the Truffle Panino, a tasty blend of melted cheeses and greens drizzled with white truffle-infused olive oil.
Bento Bus
This truck's vibrantly-painted exterior matches the flavors that are dished from the kitchen inside. Bento Bus serves Japanese fare with a focus on fresh and healthy. Choose from pan-fried tofu or vegetables in this truck's staple entrees, the rice bowl, surrito (burrito with a soy wrap) or a duo of tortilla-wrapped Asian tacos. Don't miss the popular tofu rice bowl, topped with lettuce, green onions, edamame, nori and a satisfyingly crunchy tempura sprinkle.
Mac the Cheese
Dine at this truck to try its signature dish - a flavorful, gourmet-inspired spin on the comfort food favorite. Two vegetarian-friendly mac bowls are menu highlights at Mac the Cheese: Spinach and Artichoke Mac tops fontina-sauced macaroni with homemade spinach and artichoke dip, diced tomatoes and Parmesan. Or taste the simpler, but equally delicious, Just the Mac, and choose from fontina or sharp cheddar cheeses.
Viet-Nomie's Gourmet Food Truck
Taste a trio of vegetarian options at this food truck that dishes authentic Vietnamese cuisine. Try the Tofu Noodle Boat, a pairing of sautéed tofu with fresh tomatoes over rice noodles, or the Tofu, sautéed with tomatoes and veggies over fragrant jasmine rice. A Viet-Nomie's fan favorite? The Banh Mi Tofu sandwiches tofu, tomatoes, cilantro, pickled veggies and jalapeños in a sliced baguette.
Genki To Go
If you love the flavors from the brick-and-mortar Genki Noodles & Sushi, you'll love those same Japanese flavors at Genki's mobile kitchen. Visit Genki To Go to build your own Genki bowl with a mix of veggies (steamed or sauteed) or vegetables and tofu (grilled or katsu fried). Order your bowl Don-Style (over your choice of rice) or Yaki-Style (over your choice of four stir-fried noodles), and for an extra protein punch, add a fried or scrambled egg.
