Our entire honor as a party-hearty state is at stake.
What’s that? You didn’t know that Wednesday was a day all about drinking beer (officially, anyway)? Maybe that’s cuz you’re no longer a member of the Fake I.D. Set.
Or maybe – gulp – it’s because you’re from Georgia.
Simply put, our suds-sucking record su — er, it stinks. That's the humiliating conclusion to draw from the new "Beer with Your Buds" National Survey commissioned by Budweiser. This "first of its kind" study asked 2,000 Americans to choose their top drink to enjoy with friends at a bar or "other social venue."
You’ll be stunned to learn that beer finished No. 1! (Margaritas were far back at No. 2)
And that respondents preferred domestic beer (“such as Budweiser,” the survey helpfully suggested) over that imported you-know-what by a 2-to-1 margin!
So, OK, we’re having a little fun with the good folks over at Budweiser. But here’s what’s so not funny: When it came time to crunch the data to identify the “Most Beer-Loving States,” the top three were Massachusetts, Missouri and Wisconsin, in that order. Georgia didn’t even make it into the Top Ten.
In fact, you practically have to scrape the bottom of the keg to find us way down at No. 41. That’s just one spot ahead of (honestly, it’s almost enough to drive a person to drink) North Dakota.
Well, at least we still have the college football rankings to feel good about.
Oh, wait …
Wait, indeed. For while it turns out we may be be hop-hapless here, we do have something else drink-related to puff out our chests about. In one of those weird confluences, Thursday turns out to be National Coffee Day. And those wonky numbers crunchers over at Wallet Hub studied the 100 largest cities to determine "the best local coffee scenes in America."
Portland, Ore., and Seattle finished No.'s 1 and 2, which is about as startling as finding rain and moody "deep thinking" folks everywhere you turn in those places. But Atlanta ranked an impressive No. 14 in the study, which analyzed 12 key metrics, ranging from “number of coffee shops, coffee houses and cafés per capita” to “average price of a coffee pack."
Not to mention, a great place to find a cup of restorative Joe the morning after National Drink Beer Day!
