I can't even begin to count how many times a day I get asked the question "What's your favorite restaurant?" Impossible question to answer, as there are countless phenomenal restaurants, all with a different niche.
The question that I can answer though, is "What is your favorite food to eat?" For me it is, and has always been, a great sandwich.
I'm talking about crusty fresh bread, the perfect meats, the meltiest cheese and all the fixins. Nothing makes me happier.
It is my duty, then, to present you with 5 of my favorite sandwiches from all over Atlanta:
Fred's Meat and Bread - The Grinder
My wife doesn't know this, but I'm having a love affair with this sandwich spot in Krog Street and The Grinder is at the height of my passion. Maybe the greatest Italian sub I have ever had is filled with meats and cheeses and the perfect sub roll that makes the long lines to actually get one well worth the wait.
Norman's Landing - The Reuben
Yes, I am actually telling you that this long-time winning seafood restaurant in Cumming is coming in with one of the best Reubens around. Lovely bread, super flavorful corned beef, spot on Thousand Island dressing and that perfect mix of sauerkraut makes this trip outside the perimeter worth it.
Victory Sandwich Bar - The Castro
This legendary spot and an Atlanta Eats favorite has countless great sandwiches, but their take on the Cuban separates itself from the rest. Delicious smoked pork, the leanest ham, pickles, Fontina cheese and yellow mustard on a grilled up tasty roll. It reminds us just how great a Cuban sandwich can be.
Galla's Pizza - Steak and Cheese
Who doesn't love a steak 'n cheese sub done to perfection? They got it done at these neighborhood pizza places run by Buffalo transplant, Bob Galla. It's oh so meaty and cheesy and has the perfect mix of grilled mushrooms and onions. No gluten-free or vegan options here. This is a man's sandwich through and through.
Joy Cafe - Meatloaf Sandwich
Only Chef Joy can feed you meatloaf that puts your Mama's to shame. Buttered, grilled bread, a little tomato and onion and a giant slice of house made meatloaf. I always slab on a healthy dose of ketchup to make this lunchtime favorite a Buckhead hall of famer.
