Former Atlanta TV news anchor Chuck Moore died last Friday at his home in South Carolina.

Moore spent a quarter-century on the air here, starting out at WAGA in 1972 and then moving to WXIA in 1979. He retired for the first time in 1997, having anchored the 5 a.m. - 7 a.m. newscast for the past eight years.

“The morning shift got to be too much,” Moore told the AJC at the time. “I’m just tired. It’s very simple.”

It didn’t last for long. By 1999, he was back behind an anchor desk at WNEG in Toccoa. He also used his time to mentor young broadcast students before retiring for good in 2009.
