According to TMZ, Ciara was seeking sole custody, but a judge granted joint custody between the two parents.

TMZ said Ciara argued that Future has not been present in their son's life.

California usually favors joint custody, according to TMZ.

It is not clear if Ciara and Future have joint legal custody or joint physical custody.

According to the Judicial Courts of California, "both parents have the right to make decisions and either parent can make a decision alone" under joint legal custody. For joint physical custody, the child may spend a little more time with one parent than another because "it is too hard to split the time exactly in half."
