Now playing at a theater near me: "I Will Hog the Bed And Then Attack Your Feet at 3 a.m." starring my bratty little cat Walter. Actually that's not a film. That's my life.
Cat people, you can relate, right? I hope to see some of you at the Feline Film Festival, happening at 7 p.m. Nov. 1 at Studioplex, 659 Auburn Ave., Unit 121 in (ahem) Catlanta.
The evening will feature screenings of cat videos, which as you know our society is starved for. One day, the Internet will catch on and start offering a forum for cat videos. Until then, there’s this film fest.
Kidding aside, the night offers a lighthearted forum for folks to chuckle at the antics of one another’s feline masters and raises money for a cause. Tickets are $12.50 and proceeds benefit LifeLine Animal Project, which facilitates pet adoptions, provides low-cost spay and neuter services, helps care for feral and stray cats and manages the DeKalb County Animal Services shelter and Fulton County Animal Services shelter.
For information or to submit a clip of your cat doing something either cute or nefarious, see felinefilmfest.com.
Event supports women in front of and behind the camera
Women in Film & Television Atlanta has big plans for its 40th anniversary: a festive gala at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 8 at the Wimbish House, 1150 Peachtree St. N.E. It will feature passed hors d’oeuvres, drinks, music and remarks by members of Georgia’s film and television community.
Past WIFTA honorees include "The Walking Dead" star Melissa McBride and Atlanta actress and director Jasmine Guy.
"We are excited to reminisce about the influence WIFTA has had on Atlanta's television and film community over the last 40 years and are extremely proud of strides the industry made as it relates to women in general," said organization vice president Tanisha Coffey. "We also know there is so much more we can accomplish. The journey continues. We're looking forward to spearheading another 40 years of progress."
Individual tickets start at $74 and are available at bit.ly/1vpMzd2. For sponsorship, advertisement and donation information, email SpecialEvents@WIFTA.org.
