3 ways to unlock the secrets of Georgia Aquarium

Georgia Aquarium is one of Atlanta's most beloved attractions, and it's easy to take it for granted. Do you ever wonder how they manage the world's largest aquarium? From the dolphin show costumes to the Tropical Diver coral reef, here are three ways you can unlock the secrets of this Atlanta darling.

Whether it's a spring break stop, date night destination or out-of-town guest entertainment option, these affordable tours will reveal the behind-the-scenes mysteries of Georgia Aquarium.

Dolphin Spotlight Tour

Lights! Camera! Action! If you adore the AT&T Dolphin Tales show, then you'll want to dive into the details backstage. Start by watching the show from your reserved VIP seat, then head behind the scenes for a look at how the show comes together.  Learn about the history, story and work that goes into such a large production. Soak up the details on lighting, costume and stage design, and finally, discover the details of the dolphins' care.

Tours are offered daily. A 45-minute tour follows the 30-minute AT&T Dolphin Tales show. Cost is $14 plus tax per person over general admission. There are no age restrictions.

Ocean Voyager Spotlight Tour

The Ocean Voyager exhibit houses the aquarium's four whale sharks, four manta rays and thousands of other fish in 6.3 million gallons of salt water. Designed specifically to house whale sharks and other large species fish, no other aquarium in the world has even attempted to manage the size and quantity of fish in Ocean Voyager. Learn about the care and operation of the behemoth aquatic exhibit. See Ocean Voyager and the underwater tunnel from the top, and catch a glimpse of the largest extant fish in the world.

Tours are offered five times a day and last approximately 30 minutesCost is $14 plus tax per person over general admission. Children are welcome, but they must be at least 7 years old. No heels allowed.

All-Access Backstage Pass

If you are seeking more than a peek behind closed doors, try the All-Access Tour. You'll gain exclusive behind-the-scenes entrance to multiple galleries. Visit the top of Ocean Voyager and see the whale sharks swim beneath you. Then head to the top of Tropical Diver, where you will see the coral reef, warming lights and the mechanics behind the large waves within the exhibit that offer oxygen to the reef for the health of the its organisms.

In addition to touring the galleries, you'll learn about the history of the aquarium's development and their research and conservation initiatives. Finally, gain insight about the animal care and food preparation with stops at the Correll Center for Aquatic Animal Health and the Georgia Aquarium commissary

Tours are offered daily every half hour from 10:30 a.m.-4 p.m. and last approximately 45 minutes. Cost is $15 (non-members) plus tax per person over general admission.
