The Atlanta Botanical Garden announced in an email to members on March 12 that it would remain open during the COVID-19 pandemic, but will cancel two events.

In the email, signed by botanical garden president and CEO Mary Pat Matheson, garden leadership said it would adhere to CDC guidance but would step up cleaning of all of its public facilities such as restrooms and entrances. It has also added hand sanitizer stations throughout the garden, though the email did not specify how many. Disinfecting wipes and tissues would also be made available to guests.

The garden did, however, ask guests who have traveled to any of the pandemic hot spots listed by the CDC or who feel they may have been exposed to the virus to stay away from the garden.

“As an outdoor oasis of beauty, peace and tranquility during these stressful times, the Garden will remain open,” Matheson said in the email.

Even with social distancing guidelines spelled out by the CDC, the garden has canceled it's March 20 Garden Party. It has postponed the grand opening events for its children's gardens in Gainesville on March 20 and March 21. The new date for the grand opening has not been set. atlantabg.org
