The Atlanta Jewish Film Festival, a sprawling smorgasbord of 77 movies screened over four weeks, has announced the opening night film will be "Remember," from Oscar-winning director Atom Egoyan.
“Remember” will be shown at the Cobb Energy Center on Tuesday, Jan. 26, following a gala reception for patron-level supporters of the festival. At 2,700 seats, it is the largest venue that the festival will use.
In the film Christopher Plummer plays 90-year-old Auschwitz survivor Zev Guttman, fighting failing health and memory loss as he tracks down his Nazi tormentor.
“There are some surprises,” said the festival’s executive director Kenny Blank, of “Remember.” “It’s a mystery and a thriller.”
The 23-day festival, which runs through February 17, should draw close to 38,000 viewers, with a range of films from features to documentaries to comedy and horror. Films will be screened at locations spread throughout the metro area.
