Broadway veteran Chad Beguelin and Sugarland's Kristian Bush feature prominently in the upcoming spate of shows at the Alliance Theatre.

The 48th season at the Woodruff’s performing arts venue will boast seven world premieres, including “The Prom,” written by Beguelin and fellow Broadway writer-actor Bob Martin, and “Troubadour,” a romantic comedy set in 1950s Nashville written by Atlanta playwright Janece Shaffer with music from Bush. “Troubadour” will be directed by Susan V. Booth, artistic director of the Alliance.

Here is a look at the upcoming season for the Alliance Stage Series:

"The Prom" (Aug. 18-Sept. 25, 2016): Book by Chad Beguelin and Bob Martin, music by Matthew Sklar. Emma becomes a national headline when her high school cancels the prom rather than allow her to attend with her girlfriend. A group of fading celebrities takes up her cause and invades Emma's small Indiana town.

"Moby Dick" (Oct. 12-30, 2016): Adapted and directed by David Catlin from the Herman Melville novel. Originally produced by Lookingglass Theatre Company in association with Actors Gymnasium in Chicago. Co-production with Arena Stage and South Coast Repertory.

"Troubadour" (Jan. 18-Feb. 12, 2017): In 1951 Nashville, country music legend Billy Mason is on the eve of retirement. Can his soft-spoken son, Joe, step into the spotlight and carry on? Written by Janece Shaffer with music by Kristian Bush. Directed by Susan V. Booth.

"The Temple Bombing" (Feb. 22-March 12, 2017): Inspired by the book of the same name by Melissa Fay Greene. Written and directed by Jimmy Maize. On Oct. 12, 1958, a bundle of dynamite blew through the wall of Atlanta's oldest synagogue. Following 1954's Brown v. Board of Education Supreme Court decision, Rabbi Rothschild of The Temple had become a public advocate for the progress of civil rights. A world premiere presented on The Temple's 100th anniversary.

Hertz Stage Series:

"Ugly Lies the Bone" (Sept. 16-Oct. 9, 2016): A drama that shows the effects of visible and invisible wounds of returning war veterans. By Lindsey Ferrentino; directed by Jessica Holt.

"Courtenay's Cabaret: Home for the Holidays" (Dec. 2-24, 2016): A musical by and starring Courtenay Collins; directed by Susan V. Booth. An evening of music, drinks, laughter and stories, as well as a live band.

"Too Heavy for Your Pocket" (Feb. 4-26, 2017): Winner of the 2017 Alliance/Kendeda National Graduate Playwriting Competition. By Jiréh Breon Holder, currently Emory University Playwriting Fellow. In rural Tennessee at the height of the civil rights movement, two young couples struggle to understand justice, love and their own responsibilities.

"The Magic Negro and Other Blackity Blackness, As Told By An African-American Man, Who Also Happens to be Black" (March 24-April 15, 2017): Originally created and produced at Dad's Garage. By and starring Dad's Garage's Mark Kendall.
