Actor Harry Hains, best known for his role on “American Horror Story” and Sneaky Pete, died Jan. 7 at the age of 27, according to an Instagram post by his mom.
Hains, who had just celebrated a birthday Dec. 4, worked as a model, producer and actor, with other roles in “The OA” and “The Surface.” The Australian actor died in Los Angeles, his mother Jane Badler confirmed on Instagram.
“On Jan 7 my beautiful son died . He was 27 and had the world at his feet,” she wrote in a post Thursday. “But sadly he struggled with mental illness and addiction . A brilliant spark shone bright too short a time .. I will miss you Harry every day of my life.”
Others sent out tributes to Hains on social media Thursday and Friday.
Hains also performed with his band ANTIBOY and had identified as gender fluid.
In a March 2019 interview with Boys by Girls, the actor discussed the challenge about not fitting into gender conformity.
“I know that I am born male, but I don’t think I represent what it means to be a man,” he told journalist Sophia Razvi. “I believe we should be whatever we want. It gets kind of confusing when we start labeling ourselves, so I try to stay away from labels.”
He later talked about what inspired joy in his day, which he said was creating.
“Creating makes me happy. My work makes me happy. Especially the process of making this album and seeing it come to fruition has made me really happy. And being able to create works of art has made me proud of myself, especially coming to another country. Moving away and working hard and being able to follow my passions.”
A memorial for Hains will be held for fans and friends at 3 p.m. Sunday at Hollywood Forever, 6000 Santa Monica Blvd. To RSVP to the event, email harryhainscm@gmail.com.
