This Victorian home shows off its eclectic style with calm elegance.

The fireplace in the Grant Park home is original to the 20th century build. The painting is among many pieces collected by the homeowners during their global travels.

When deciding how to decorate their home, Leon Kouters and Marty Simpson had one guiding principle: Keep it simple. Shelving like this presents the perfect pitfall for overcrowding, so the couple focused on using items they had collected through the years.

A cool palette of blues and creams works so well because of the amount of natural light brought in through the beautiful windows around the Victorian home.

The upstairs bedroom features repurposed pine floors and an upholstered bed from Z Gallerie. The bay window and vaulted ceilings gives the room a more spacious feel.

Vintage finds like this fan can be seen throughout the house. Kouters and Simpson have a love of finding unique pieces for their space. They often find antiques at Scott Antique Market.

The model airplanes on display throughout the office were collected by Kouters, who works for aerospace company Fokker Services. Like many other pieces throughout their home, this collection is a personal touch that can't be replicated. The orange ladder pops against the floor-to-ceiling shelves.

One fun way to make vaulted ceilings more versatile is to use them as a stencil for your latest shelving challenge. That's exactly what Simpson and Kouters did in the office–formerly a bedroom–of their Grant Park home.

The granite countertops complement the industrial Pottery Barn light fixtures. The layout accommodates an abundance of cabinets and open shelving.

The kitchen underwent a major renovation in 2005 before Kouters and Simpson purchased the home. The renovation included installation of new appliances. When they bought the house, all they had to do was repaint.

The stairs connects the renovated kitchen to the second floor addition. The homeowners liked how the architectural elements were in keeping with the style of the century-old home.

Atop the staircase of this Grant Park home, the owners' love of original and personal art really shines through. "Most of our art is bought locally at various art places in Paris, Amsterdam and Savannah," said homeowner Leon Kouters.

The master bedroom exudes a calming aura thanks to the cool blue palette. The canopy bed is from Crate & Barrel.

In 2005, the Grant Park home underwent a major renovation that included updating the three bathrooms. The oversized tub and walk-in shower were a welcome addition. The travertine tiles match the coloring of the cabinetry.

Walk-in showers immediately add a sense of luxe to any bathroom. The large master bathroom plays up the elegance factor by including both a walk-in shower, oversized tub and intricately carved cabinetry.

Two bay windows, including one in the living room, give architectural oomph to the Victorian home, which was built in the early 20th century and overlooks Grant Park.

A cute courtyard makes entertaining a no-brainer for the homeowners.

The home is decorated with furniture from stores such as Crate & Barrel and found items like the refurbished church pew in the adjacent dining room. Touches of color come from original art that the homeowners collected on their travels.

The front door with a rounded transom is a favorite element for Leon Kouters and Marty Simpson. The wavy glass surrounding the door is original to the 20th century build. The pine flooring is also original to the home, another favorite of Kouters and Simpson.

Kouters and Simpson often sit on the couches of their front porch. "The view from it is absolutely gorgeous," Kouters said.

Kouters and Simpson did very little renovation when they purchased their home in 2017. On the front porch, they removed the screens and added curtains and seating. Today, they enjoy unobstructed views of Grant Park.

The Grant Park home features a classically beautiful porch. "That's probably our most favorite room and almost sold us immediately on the home," said Kouters of the 20th century Victorian home.

Decorating with vaulted ceilings can be a challenge, but Kouters and Simpson have taken it on. Using low furniture and bright colors is an easy trick to make a room seem more spacious. You can also add a pop of color, like original artwork collected by Simpson and Kouters on their travels.

They live in the 3,200-square-foot, Victorian home with their son, Colin, a college student, and their chocolate lab, Tanner. The home is on the 2017 Grant Park Candlelight Tour of Homes, set for Dec. 9-10.
