UPS is believed to be planning a major logistics facility on a site next to Fulton County Airport, according to reports Tuesday.
The Majestic Logistics Center on Fulton Industrial Boulevard near the airport, known as Charlie Brown Field, would include 1,064 trailer storage spaces and 216 tractor service parking spaces, according to a permit application with the City of Atlanta.
The permit does not name UPS, but rather refers to a distribution center called “Project Shark.” The application says the project would include room for 1,324 auto parking spaces, suggesting large-scale employment. The project would take up 159 acres of a roughly 340-acre site, it said.
Amid reports about the project on websites for Bisnow.com and the Atlanta Business Chronicle, which cited unnamed sources naming UPS, the company declined to comment on “speculation.”
The Sandy Springs-based shipper said it’s “been investing in our facilities throughout the U.S. and around the world, and continue to do that in order to constantly improve our service to our customers.”
Majestic Realty in 2013 developed plans to lease the property next to Charlie Brown Field and build a 2.8 million-square-foot warehouse and logistics center as a $120 million project. The site was a finalist for a Kroger distribution center, but Kroger instead chose a site at Fort Gillem.
