UPS freight workers represented by the Teamsters union have voted to ratify a new five-year contract that will give them $2.50 in wage increases over five years.

The Teamsters said workers who cast ballots were overwhelmingly in favor of the new contract, with 5,222 in favor and 2,107 opposed after weekend voting at union halls.

The new contract, which covers 13,000 UPS Freight workers, also strengthens pension benefits and addresses subcontracting, according to the Teamsters.

The UPS master contract was approved last year, but yet to be completed are some UPS local agreements. The Sandy Springs-based shipping firm and the union last year agreed to extend their current contract pending the remaining approvals.
