UPS, the Sandy Springs logistics company, has added a ground freight service between the United States and Mexico that is designed to ease challenges in cross-border movement.

The company said in a statement that the service, called UPS CrossBorder Connect, combines transportation and customs brokerage to reduce risk in the supply chain.

The service integrates with carriers in Mexico at eight points along the border, UPS said. The ground freight option is a middle ground between expensive air transportation and slower less-than-truckload movement. It takes three to four days.

In the statement, UPS Global Freight Forwarding president Steve Flowers said the service improves visibility and predictability of the movement of goods as more businesses look to move production closer to the U.S.
