Sandy Springs-based UPS has acquired U.K.-based healthcare logistics firm Polar Speed, part of a global expansion and focus on healthcare logistics.

Polar Speed specializes in temperature-controlled deliveries of pharmaceuticals to hospitals, pharmacies, wholesalers, surgery centers and patients, and has a fleet of 118 temperature-controlled vehicles. The deal brings an additional three facilities to UPS’s network of healthcare facilities and strengthens the logistics firm’s presence in Europe. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The Polar Speed deal follows UPS’s acquisition of Hungary-based pharmaceutical logistics company CEMELOG last year. UPS’s logistics services to healthcare companies include temperature-sensitive handling, warehousing and distribution, regulatory compliance, security, labeling, accounts receivable and other services.
