Unemployment in Dalton is the highest in the state.

Donny Horton, 51, of Dalton, stands outside the Georgia Department of Labor after searching for a job. Horton is facing a tough job market. The "Carpet Capital of the World" saw one of the largest gains in unemployment in the U.S. for 2008. Just two years ago everyone who wanted a job had one. Carpet plants were humming and unemployment was less than 3 percent. But as housing goes, so, too does flooring. And now Dalton is on the floor.
