The top executive at UPS saw his total compensation rise by more than 21 percent in 2011, while compensation fell nearly 4 percent for his counterpart at technology company NCR.

The companies reported executive pay Monday in regulatory filings. Scott Davis, chairman and CEO of Sandy Springs-based UPS, made $13.05 million in 2011, up from $10.73 million in 2010.

William Nuti, chairman, CEO and president of NCR in Duluth, made $11.71 million in 2011. He made $12.17 million the year before.

UPS said 78 percent of Davis' target compensation is dependent on performance. At NCR, that figure is 62 percent.

UPS, which said Davis is underpaid compared to his peers according to financial advisory firm GlassRatner, raised the salaries of each of its five most highly paid executives. Company profit rose 23.3 percent in 2011 on the strength of increased deliveries relating to online shopping and an improving U.S. economy.

Davis' base salary was $1.02 million in 2011, up $22,865. Nuti's base salary was steady at $1 million. Most of the changes in executives' salaries for both UPS and NCR was stock-based.

UPS shareholders had a 3.9 percent return last year, including dividends. For shareholders of NCR, the return was 7.1 percent.

Also Monday, AT&T said Ralph de la Vega, chief executive of the company's Atlanta-based AT&T Mobility wireless unit, received $9.8 million in total compensation. That was down about $1 million from 2010, due tochanges to pension and stock purchase and deferral plans.

Parent AT&T last month disclosed that its board cut CEO Randall Stephenson's compensation by $2.08 million for his role in a failed bid to buy T-Mobile USA.
