SunTrust Banks announced two directors will step down this year after reaching mandatory retirement age.

Blake Garrett Jr., a partner at Garrett and Garrett Construction and related commercial real estate development companies of Fountain Inn, S.C., has been a director since 2004. G. Gilmer Minor III, chairman of Owens & Minor Inc. of Richmond, Va., has served since 1998.

The retirement policy requires directors to retire from the board upon the first annual meeting following their 72nd birthday, according to spokesman Michael McCoy. The annual meeting this year is April 23.

The bank said Frank Scruggs Jr., 61, a partner in the Florida business law firm Berger Singerman LLP, has been nominated to serve as a director.
