A Carrollton-based maker of wire and power cable is expanding in its home county, with plans to create 375 jobs, state and company officials said Wednesday.
Southwire said it will invest $95 million in its Carroll County expansion over the next four years.
Manufacturing is a key focus of the state’s economic development efforts, and the Southwire announcement is the second major jobs announcement in Carroll County this month. In early October, Japanese auto parts maker Yachiyo of America said it would build a factory in Carrollton, about 50 miles west of downtown Atlanta, and create more than 200 jobs.
Just this month, state officials announced plans by an Indian company to build a new yarn factory in Screven County in east Georgia and the planned expansion of bread-maker King’s Hawaiian’s facilities in Hall County.
The yarn and bread-making plants, respectively, could create more than 650 jobs over several years.
Southwire, founded in 1950, acquired a 144,000-square-foot building in Villa Rica and plans to buy a 635,000-square-foot former Sony Music facility in Carrollton, according to a news release.
The Southwire expansion follows earlier additions of more than 600 jobs by the company in Carroll County and 89 jobs in Coffee County in the past few years, according to the state.
One-third of homes built in the U.S. are powered using the company’s wire, according to the release.
