Southwire, a Carrollton-based company whose products are used in electrical wiring, said Friday it acquired Tappan Wire & Cable of Blauvelt, N.Y. Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but Gary Leftwich, a spokesman for the privately held Southwire, said it the acquisition was the second-largest since 2008. Tappan Wire & Cable employs 200. The acquisition follows an earlier deal for some assets of Rhode Island-based American Insulated Wire Corp. in January. That deal, which brought 400 employees under the Southwire umbrella, was the company's largest. Leftwich said the five acquisitions it has made since 2008 are part of a larger strategy to add complimentary products to its offerings.
