The 2015 American Institute of Architects Convention is in town this week at the Georgia World Congress Center. More than 20,000 attendees from across the globe are in the city for the event, which is being held in the hometown of one of the world’s most influential architects and developers, John C. Portman Jr. Portman is the founder and chairman of Portman Holdings, the real estate development firm, John Portman & Associates, the architectural and engineering firm, and AmericasMart, the world’s largest trade mart. He began his career with a two-man architectural practice and transformed it into an international organization with developments from Peachtree Street in Atlanta to Shanghai, China.
