The People Express name is set to return to the skies, including flights to Atlanta to launch Aug. 1.

People Express Airlines, doing business as PEOPLExpress with flights on Boeing 737s operated by Vision Airlines, said it will launch service June 30. The first routes will go from Newport News/Williamsburg International Airport to Boston, Newark and Pittsburgh, with flights to go on sale June 4.

The company plans to add routes over the summer, including six flights a week from Atlanta to Newport News starting Aug. 1.

The carrier said its fares will start at $76 each way, but it plans to charge $25 per segment for each carry-on bag in overhead bins, $20 for a first checked bag and $15 for advance seat assignments, among other fees.

Vision Airlines a few years ago had envisioned a hub in Destin and launched service out of Atlanta in late 2010, before pulling out in 2012.
