TSYS, the Columbus-based payments processing company, said Tuesday it will open a call center in Henry County and create up to 450 jobs, according to a state news release.

The new facility, which is expected to open later this year, will provide back-office and technical support, including collections, customer service and risk management services, the release issued by Gov. Nathan Deal’s office said.

TSYS is one of Georgia’s biggest financial technology companies and the state is one of the world’s major transactions processing hubs.

Call centers tend to offer lower scale wages, but they are big business in Georgia, employing tens of thousands in the metro area. Recently, Chime Solutions announced it would hire more than 1,100 people at a call center in a former department store space in Southlake Mall, and Verizon Wireless announced plans in recent months to hire about 200 at call centers in Milton and Alpharetta as part of a broader expansion of its business statewide.
