NCR sells Blockbuster Express kiosks

NCR, the Duluth technology company, has sold its entertainment division to Redbox for $100 million.

The company is posting a $12 million gain on the transaction after write downs, taxes and the cost of getting rid of some inventory that wasn't sold.

At the beginning of the year, NCR had 10,000 Blockbuster Express movie rental kiosks. The three-year-old business lost $50 million in 2010 and $60 million in 2011.

NCR announced its decision to sell the division in February, several months after it acquired the Alpharetta hospitality technology company Radiant Systems.

The company did not say how many employees were affected by the sale, but said previously that no workers were going to Redbox.
