The Consumer Product Safety Commission announced on Wednesday a massive recall of the two-wheeled, self-balancing motorized scooters also known as hoverboards.

The CSPC said it has received 99 reports that the lithium-ion battery packs in the hoverboards can overheat, posing a risk of the products smoking, catching fire and exploding.

Numerous accounts of hoverboards malfunctioning have been posted on social media over the past year.

The recall involves approximately 501,000 products sold by 10 manufacturers. To see the manufacturers listed in the recall, visit the CSPC website. Overstock.com is recalling all of its hoverboard inventory.

The CSPC said consumers should immediately stop using these recalled products and contact the company who manufactured the product for a full refund, a free repair or a free replacement depending on the model.
