Despite growing pressure to begin Black Friday earlier and earlier, many national retailers have pledged to stay closed Thanksgiving Day.

According to ThinkProgress, the list of stores remaining closed on the holiday include American Girl, Burlington, T.J. Maxx, Marshalls, Costco and many others.

Over the past several years, many chains have begun their Black Friday shopping hours on Thanksgiving Day, some starting earlier than dinnertime itself.

This year, Macy’s will open its doors at 6 p.m. and Walmart will be open all day on Thanksgiving.

According to Brad's Black Friday website, a "Boycott Black Thursday" page has surfaced on Facebook and has gained over 65,000 likes in support of retail employees and their families.

Here is a sampling of the stores pledging to remain closed until Black Friday itself:

  • American Girl
  • BJ's Wholesale Club
  • Burlington
  • Costco
  • Crate and Barrel
  • Dillard's
  • Gordmans
  • Homegoods
  • Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft Stores
  • Marshalls
  • Nordstrom
  • Pier 1 Imports
  • Publix
  • REI
  • Sierra Trading Post
  • T.J.Maxx
