Jobs in Georgia manufacturing have increased for the fourth consecutive year – albeit, modestly, according to an industry report.

Georgia manufacturing employment added 3,833 jobs – up 1 percent, according to the 2015 Georgia Manufacturers Register, which is published by Manufacturers’ News, Inc.

The measure was taken between May 2013 and May 2014.

The state now has 9,802 manufacturing companies with 486,233 employees, according to the report.

“Manufacturers in Georgia are making large strides, particularly in the transportation equipment industry,” wrote Tom Dubin, president of the report’s publishing company.

Transportation manufacturing accounts for 43,615 jobs.

In Atlanta, manufacturing companies employ 57,169 workers, a slight decline during the year. However, the number of manufacturing jobs grew in Norcross and in Alpharetta.

The largest cluster of manufacturing is in northwest Georgia: 297,200 jobs, up 1 percent in a year, according to the report.
